One Another Portrait Project, 2016
Mike Hoyt’s One Another explored the personal connections formed during the process of creating a portrait. Hoyt stationed his mobile drawing desk in various parts of the Chinatown North neighborhood and invited people to sit with him, talk with him and have themselves be drawn. The relatively slow process of drawing a portrait using Chinese ink and brushes, which takes around 20 to 30 minutes to complete, created an opportunity for two complete strangers to share an informal yet intimate experience.
