Collective Resilience: 2019-2020 School Year

Youth Arts Workshop-School Year Program
YAW Students participate in a Taiko (traditional Japanese drumming) workshop

The 2019-2020 School Year program is exploring themes related to Collective Resilience through digital artwork and graphic design mediums.

From September to December, YAW explored Afrofuturism: its canon of art, and the artists behind the movement. With guidance from our teaching artists, youth engaged in science fiction and surrealist art practices to imagine alternative, utopian realities for their communities.

This Spring, youth will explore community resilience through civic empowerment. YAW is working in collaboration with AAI's public programs on Census Awareness. Youth are creating visual materials for AAI's multilingual campaign that advocates for making all voices heard, especially those from historically undercounted communities, such as the AAPI community.
