About Jeffrey Cheung
Cheung’s bright figurative work celebrates queerness within his personal life and within skate culture.
Unity at the Initiative is a multi-site exhibition and in-home experience centered on the work of artist and skater Jeffrey Cheung and their UNITY initiative out of Oakland CA. Unity at the Initiative was envisioned as a means to create more diverse representations of queer and trans bodies of color, and endeavors to protect a creative community whose “2020 troubles” are compounded by under-representation and outright injustices.
Work by a roster of artists curated by Unity Skate, can be seen from outside, at Asian Arts Initiative, the Attic Youth Center, Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni's Room, and at Mina's World.
Major support for Unity at the Initiative has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.
