Francis Wong, called one of "the great saxophonists of his generation" by the late jazz critic Phil Elwood, is featured on more than forty recording titles as a leader and sideman. For over two decades he has performed his innovative brand of creative music for audiences in North America, Asia, and Europe. Wong's imaginative career straddles roles as varied as performing artist, youth mentor, composer, artistic director, community activist, non-profit organization manager, producer, and academic lecturer. This trajectory is reflective of his long term commitment to the pursuit of social change and equality begun as an Asian American Movement activist at Stanford University in the 1970’s. Key vehicles for his work are Asian Improv aRts, the artist development company he co-founded with pianist/composer Jon Jang, and numerous other arts and culture-driven organizations. He is currently completing an MA in Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University.
