KhoKhoi de La Vida

Headshot of KhoKhoi de La Vida on a windy night, looking off into the distance.

KhoKhoi (aka KK/mary alinney villacastin) is a movement-based artist and
plant/body/cultural worker of Visayan-Philippine origins. KK is based between the unceded Lenapehoking islands of New York City & Bantayan island, Philippines, as a humble descendant of local healers and leaders of fisherfolk communities.

KK holds a BA in Anthropology (Barnard College of Columbia University) & an MA in Media Studies (The New School of Public Engagement). In 2018-2019, KK received an Asian Cultural Council Fellowship in Dance to study local festivals & media cultures of the Visayan islands.

Alongside academic studies & artistic co-creations, KK traveled Mexico, India & Philippines, learning healing arts of plant medicine, hilot/bodywork, hatha yoga, butoh dance, movement therapy & martial arts. KK conjures healing heartwork through Kalami Spirit Arts, exploring sensual pleasures of plant, movement and embodied cultural arts.

KK is a core member of Red Canary Song, organizing with Asian bodyworkers in NYC, & Panlantawon, supporting local arts on Bantayan island.
