Leon Sun

Leon Sun was born 1948 in Shanghai, China. His family migrated to Hong Kong in 1957. He came to the U. S. in 1966 as a student and subsequently became a U. S. citizen. He graduated from San Francisco's Academy of Art University with a BFA in Photography and a minor in Painting, 1973. He also holds a BA in Political Science from Loyola Marymount University, 1977 and an MA in East Asian Studies from the University of Washington, 1979. Leon has worked with a number of Bay Area Asian American artists groups such as Japantown Art & Media (JAM) Workshop, Kearny Street Workshop and Community Asian Art & Media Project (CAAMP) where he was Director, 1979-81. From 1982-1989 Leon freelanced as a photographer, graphic designer and illustrator. He has also participated in multi-cultural, ad hoc artist groups doing international support work for Palestine, El Salvador and Cuba. Individually and as a group, Leon's artwork has been shown both locally and internationally. Since 1989 he worked as a graphic artist for the city of Richmond, California, retiring in 2003. He currently lives and works out of his home in San Francisco.
