Swarnendu Mandal

Swarnendu Mandal is a classical sarod player, composer, and musicologist based in Kolkata. Currently serving as a Senior Scholar at the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy, he receives advanced, multi-year training grounded in the traditional master lineage of Hindustani classical music.

A recipient of the MS Subhalakshmi Award, Swarnendu maintains an active and global performance schedule. His international engagements include a multi-city concert tour across the United States, participating as a featured artist and composer at the Venice Biennale, and performing a residency concert series with the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany.

As a curator and producer, Swarnendu recently organized What Next, an independent collaborative classical concert series featuring a 14-musician programmatic flow at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium in Kolkata. Bridging the gap between traditional acoustic performance and modern audio engineering, he also independently recorded and released the solo single Unresolved, a deep exploration of Raag Latangi.

Swarnendu brings a unique, multidisciplinary academic foundation to his art, having earned a Bachelor’s (2021) and a Master’s (2023) degree in Geology alongside a Master’s degree in Musicology.
