Jazz legend Salim Washington returns to Philadelphia to present an evening of music, poetry, and a panel on his experiences in both political activism and the arts. Washington’s insights will serve as a catalyst for dialogue, reconnecting with local Philadelphia musicians and community members to reflect on and discuss the ways in which art and activism intersect in the contemporary context. Washington combines a life in music with the life of the mind and is a scholar of black music and culture.

This concert is taking place at the theater in Asian Arts Initiative as part the opening reception of AAI's new Spring exhibition, Crescendo: How Art Makes Movements (1981-1999). The opening reception is free and open to public. The concert is pay-what-you-wish and requires registrations.
