Crescendo Radio Episode 07: Perry Yung
The final episode of Crescendo Radio presents Perry Yung, a New York City-based actor, musician, and activist originally from Oakland, California. Perry Yung reminisces on co-founding SLANT Performance Group in 1995, an ensemble that fused theater, music, and satire to explore Asian American identity and challenge stereotypes. He also discusses the influence of mentors Corky Lee and Fred Ho, and the community organizing and afro-asian solidarity that defined the Afro Asian Music Ensemble’s vision. The episode reflects the spirit of Crescendo: How Art Makes Movements (1981–1999), showing how mentorship, collaboration, storytelling, and performance helped build enduring cultural networks. Read On Telling a Complex Story: Supplementary Statement (PDF) for more context around featuring Fred Ho’s work in this exhibition.
